These pieces are part of my girlfriend Tara's Specialized subject project based on the theme of 1950's Glamour.

Armada - End of Year Film for ADA 2

 The film was inspired by the real life story of Fancesco de Cuellar, a Spanish soldier who survived being shipwrecked on the Sligo coast only to have to make a perilous trek across the ferocious Irish countryside, avoiding bloodthirsty locals and a vicious British cavalry.

It should be noted that the real story differs however from the end of the film. In real life Franceso de Cuellar survived many months on the run before finally returning to the safety of his homeland.

The film also contains a wonderful musical track composed and performed by Micheal Clarke.

This piece was the first year group project for our ADA degree course in animation. It was originally based on a concept I had about my summer job working on the reception desk of a hotel in Dublin.

J.L.A. by Gaslight

This was a piece I worked on after I came across a toy series based on the Justice League. The premise is based on what they may look like if theyed
existed in the Victorian era of the "Gotham by Gaslight", a story drawn by Mike Mignola. I loved researching the clothing and costume from that period and would really like to work on some larger project sometime.
I was aiming for the sort of opaque, high contrast look you might see in old Victorian Era photography or posters.

Harold "Hal" Jordan, a peasant class inventor with dreams of soaring through space, now a emerald clad gentleman with the power to conjour anything.

"Save the cheerleader, save the world". This is an old concept sketch of Peter Petrelli, "the Dreamer" from the t.v. show HEROES.

These are just a few quick sketch of our "freindly neighborhood wallcrawler". I wanted to try and make Peter Parker as sympathetic as possible while his alter ego should be potentially menacing.

Comic Work- Red Riding Hood

This is a collections of pieces compiled for a college assignment a few years back. The brief given was to complete a series of comic images based on a famous folk tale. The project MUST be seven pages in length, with a minimum of three panels per page. Unfortunately this meant that we were'nt allowed do splash pages which is a shame because I had big plans for the end.

The comic was finished with a mix of watercolours for the most of the characters and enviroment and red marker for emphasis on certain objects.

For the ending of the piece I took inspiration from the "Alien" movies. I loved the idea of the protagonist being alerted to the impending danger by the dripping saliva of the monster. In the original draft I even had the wolf lurking in the rafters but because of the brief I could'nt fit it in, although the premise is illustrated in the "Concept Sketches" shown below.

Comic Work-Red Riding Hood Concept

The premise was to have the character of the Woodsman already on the trail of the Wolf because of some sort of personal vendetta. In the end he was to take the pelt as a trophy.

NOTE: Clark Kent is NOT a prat of the concept, rather the pad used for design work was a gift from a friend ha ha.

This was an alternate page for the Woodsman's enterance using different perspective.

This was the plan for the more intense "Alien-like" shot with extreme perspective. This page would have led on to more of a struggle between the characters however, again because of the brief, this had to be ommitted.

Rough Animatic - Budding Romance

This piece was part of a storyboard project during college. The main idea of the piece was to show the growth and decline the leaf and have it coincide with the developement of a young couple's relationship. It was also during the same project that I had to create the layout below based on the theatre.

Rough Animatic - Atlas

This animatic is based on an old idea I had for a project about conservation and recycling etc. The piece is based in part on the legend of Atlas, one of the Greek Titans, tasked with forever holding up the sky (the world in most depictions) . I quite liked the idea of having the Earth more as a beloved charge rather than a painful burden and from there it grew into the idea of a parent and child.
The basic premise is for Atlas to be holding the Earth, nurturing it, watching it grow, but then for it to gradually become ill and die with the spread of a disease (man) while Atlas,as a parent, is helpless to act.
